Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi believes Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo should join Kaizer Chiefs instead of Mamelodi Sundowns – should he decide to leave the mother city.

The season is coming to an end and that has prompted some clubs to start with their transfer business already.

Though City haven’t officially said the 24-year-old is up for sale, Chiefs Sporting Director Junior Motaung Jr. confirmed the club’s previous interest in Mayo, but at the time Citizens’ chairman John Comitis wasn’t willing to sell.

Mayo has been in fine form of late and netted five goals in his last five outings, climbing up the Golden Boot rankings.

Speaking on iDiski TV after City’s 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates where Mayo scored the opener before the Buccaneers turned the game around, Vilakazi admitted the former South African junior international, who has previously been linked with Mamelodi Sundowns should rather move to Naturena than Chloorkop.

We can only wish but only money talks. He can go to Chiefs man, let him go to Chiefs and play there because at Sundowns for me it’s going to be tough for him,” Vilakazi said on iDiski TV.

It’s going to be tough because he will have to compete with the likes of [Peter] Shalulile. Sometimes Sundowns plays without a number nine, with Shalulile playing the left wing. You still have Mailula, there are a lot of them.

“So for me it’s not a good idea for him to go to Sundowns. He should go to Chiefs because Chiefs doesn’t have a striker like him.

“He’s got the height, a strong body and he can protect the ball. So for me he can be a very good player for Kaizer Chiefs.”
