Six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the hijacking and fatal assault of Kaizer Chiefs footballer Luke Fleurs, as confirmed by Gauteng police on Wednesday. According to Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo, the suspects were located and arrested in Slovoville, Soweto, during the early hours of the morning. Masondo further disclosed that Fleurs’ vehicle, which had been stripped down, was recovered on Monday.
The tragic incident occurred last week when Fleurs, aged 24, fell victim to a hijacking at a petrol station situated at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Drive in Roodepoort. The assailants, armed with firearms and driving a white BMW 1 series, confronted the soccer player. Reports from News24 indicate that the perpetrators held Fleurs at gunpoint, forcing him out of his red VW Golf 8 GTI before fatally shooting him in the upper body. Subsequently, one of the assailants fled the scene in Fleurs’ car, while the other made his escape in the BMW.

Masondo highlighted the diligent efforts of a team led by Gauteng’s Deputy Police Commissioner of Crime Detection, Major-General Mbuso Khumalo, who worked tirelessly to bring the suspects to justice. “Police suspect that the arrested individuals are affiliated with a criminal syndicate responsible for numerous car hijackings in Gauteng, and investigations to locate additional suspects are ongoing,” he added.
