Orlando Pirates seem to be left behind by Soweto rivals Kaizer Chiefs in terms of early transfer business, but it seems like they will soon be active.
Chiefs have already reportedly signed three players ahead of the new season, beating Pirates to centre back Given Msimango in the process.
Determined to avoid a similar fate, Pirates are reportedly hot on the heels of Marumo Gallants winger Katlego Otladisa.
After being released by Mamelodi Sundowns not too long ago, due to extensive injury issues, the speedy winger has revived his career successfully at Gallants, being one of the key reasons the club reached the Nedbank Cup finals last season.
That run saw the likes of the Buccaneers and Chiefs credited with interest in his services for the past two transfer windows.
It now seems, however, that Chiefs are no longer being linked with Otladisa, but the links with Pirates have not disappeared. In fact, they have only increased, with that probably amplified by the fact that the left winger will now be available on a free transfer at the end of the season, as things stand.
According to close source, Pirates are well poised to add the player to their squad for next season, in an effort to boost their squad depth.
PIRATES INTERESTED IN OTLADISA
“Pirates have always been interested in the player (Otladisa). Even before he signed for Mamelodi Sundowns, while at Platinum Stars way back.
Then in January this year, they approached Marumo Gallants but were told he was not for sale because they had just lost Ndabayithethwa Ndlondlo as well.
But now Pirates have shown interest again and from what I hear, the boy has not signed a new contract yet.
Meaning that in June when his contract expires, he can join Pirates for free”. Said the source to the same publication.
The source went on to specify why Pirates want to add Otladisa.
“They really want him as cover on the wings. They could be going to Africa next season so they need a bigger quality squad so that’s why they want to sign him.
It has been discussed within management and the technical team has been briefed about that.
They are just waiting for the season to end then they will take it from there, but yeah they are interested” concluded the source.
It will be interesting to see if Pirates do indeed end up signing Otladisa, or will Chiefs resurface at the end of the season?
