Miguel Boosts Chiefs Ahead of Polokwane City Showdown
Kaizer Chiefs have received a timely boost as defender Inácio Miguel returns for their Betway Premiership clash against Polokwane City this afternoon. Miguel, the 28-year-old Angolan centre-back, is back in the squad after serving a two-match suspension following his red card during the Carling Knockout Cup quarterfinal loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on November 2.
His return couldn’t come at a better time for Amakhosi, who have struggled defensively in recent matches, conceding three goals in their last two outings. Miguel’s presence could help solidify a leaky backline as Chiefs aim to climb the league table. Despite facing criticism for his on-field discipline—accumulating three yellow cards in just four appearances—Miguel has shown promise, even contributing a goal to the team’s tally this season.
Head coach Nasreddine Nabi has defended Miguel, emphasizing the player’s need for adaptation. “He needs time for adaptation—not only to the football but also the atmosphere,” Nabi stated. “I think he wants to give his maximum for Kaizer Chiefs; sometimes it is too much.”
The Tunisian coach will, however, still be without Reeve Frosler, who serves the final game of his suspension following his dismissal in the 2-1 victory over Richards Bay. Frosler’s absence leaves a gap, but Miguel’s return is expected to bring much-needed stability at the back.
Currently sitting ninth in the standings with 11 points from seven matches, Chiefs have a golden opportunity to climb to fourth place with a win. Their opponents, Polokwane City, are in fifth and could rise to third behind Orlando Pirates with a victory, setting the stage for a high-stakes encounter.
With Miguel back, Chiefs will be eager to secure maximum points and reignite their Premiership campaign.
