Kaizer Chiefs’ head coach, Nasreddine Nabi, has put to rest the rumours linking Percy Tau and Fiston Mayele to the club.
Recently, there’s been a lot of talk about the possibility of Tau, currently with Al Ahly, and Mayele, who plays for Pyramids FC, joining the Soweto giants. Fans were excited about the idea of these big-name signings.

However, Nabi has made it clear that no talks are happening for either player. The Tunisian coach stressed that Kaizer Chiefs are committed to following the rules and respecting players’ existing contracts.
Tau is under contract with Al Ahly until June 2025, while Mayele, who had an impressive season with 17 goals and four assists, is tied to Pyramids FC until June 2026.
Nabi’s Comments on Percy Tau and Fiston Mayele
On Percy Tau, Nabi said that if there ever was a chance to sign him, Chiefs would follow the proper FIFA procedures. “There are no negotiations with Percy Tau because he still has a year left on his contract. Kaizer Chiefs respects FIFA rules. If there’s an opportunity to sign him, it will be through official channels. We respect Al Ahly; they’re a great team.”
Tau has had a successful stint with Al Ahly, scoring 27 goals and providing 13 assists in 109 appearances, despite some injury setbacks. Last season, he played 33 matches, scoring nine goals, and was instrumental in the club’s victories, including the CAF Champions League, Egyptian Premier League, Egypt Super Cup, and a bronze medal in the Club World Cup.
Nabi also addressed the rumours about Mayele, a player he has a close relationship with from their time at Young Africans. “It’s the same with Fiston Mayele. He’s like family to me; we worked well together at Young Africans. But he’s contracted to Pyramids, and he’s not available. We respect that and haven’t engaged in any negotiations.”
Last week, Mayele’s agent, Yasmin Mudele, highlighted the coach’s personal connection to the Congolese forwarded but reiterated that Pyramids were not selling the player.

During his two seasons playing under the guidance of the Tunisian coach at Yanga SC, Mayele netted an impressive 54 goals.
Even though they went their separate ways from the reigning Tanzanian champions a year ago, the two have kept a warm relationship and remain in contact.

“We have Nabi there [at Kaizer Chiefs], who’s our favourite coach. However, the situation is that the player has a contract, and Pyramids are not willing to release him,” Mudele told 45min.
