Mamelodi Sundowns are in the midst of a contract negotiation with midfielder Andile Jali, as the 32-year-old enters the final few months of his current deal. With Jali eligible to sign a pre-contract with another club under FIFA rules, he has been linked with several teams in the DStv Premiership, including Kaizer Chiefs, Cape Town City, and AmaZulu.
According to reliable sources, the main challenge in Jali’s contract extension with Sundowns is centered around a new salary package and guarantees on game time. Despite his recent lack of minutes on the field, Jali had one of his best seasons last term, winning numerous awards and being a key member of Sundowns’ treble-winning side.
However, Jali’s camp has reportedly left the decision in the hands of Sundowns to prove their value in the midfielder. With Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena recently declaring his interest in keeping Jali beyond June 2023 and even using him as a technical assistant, the Brazilians hold the advantage in retaining the Bafana Bafana international.
While the contract situation is being dealt with by management, Mokwena confirmed in a recent interview that he wants to resign Jali, saying “Well, we wanna resign him for sure, definitely.” As the negotiation continues, the future of Jali at Mamelodi Sundowns remains uncertain, but the potential of him staying with the club beyond his playing days gives the Brazilians a strong advantage in retaining their star midfielder.
