Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has not given up on his Bafana Bafana career and also addressed falling down the pecking order at Amakhosi.

Khune, 35, has retained the Amakhosi armband under Arthur Zwane, but he also remained behind Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen in the pecking order – at least for now.

Bruce Bvuma started Chiefs’ first three games of the campaign, while Petersen got a chance in the club’s 1-0 win over Richards Bay.

Meanwhile, Khune has struggled to make the bench but he insisted he will keep on supporting his other two rivals in the “best goalkeeping department in the country”.

“Like Tower said, competition is tough and we have to support the ones that are playing,” he told Simtho Dladla on Gagasi FM.
“I will wait as much as I can, I will keep pushing, I will keep working hard.

“Bruce is doing well, you have to back him up. Brandon Petersen is also there, there is Bontle Molefe. We’ve got the best goalkeeping department in the country.
“Competition is tough but I will keep working hard and I’ll bounce back soon.”

Khune took recently part in a goalkeeper coaching course and admitted he wants to continue that journey after hanging up his gloves, but for now he remains committed to playing and also hasn’t fully giving up on a return to Bafana Bafana.

“That’s what I want to do to transfer my skills into the youngsters in the future, but I’m not saying I’m not going to retire anytime soon,” he added.

“Like I’m always saying, Gigi Buffon is still going strong. He’s 44, so I’m still 34, I still have a long way to go.

“Like I said I’ll continue to support those who are playing. I’ve lost my No.1 spot at Bafana and in order for me to reclaim it back I have to play at club level.

“I’m happy that Bruce is our No.1 and is also representing our club at the national team, that’s what makes me happy.”
