Kaizer Chiefs have decided to keep George Matlou at the club for another year by exercising their option for an additional season. Matlou, who joined Chiefs from Moroka Swallows two years ago, had drawn interest from Chippa United but will stay at Amakhosi for the upcoming campaign.
Matlou’s outstanding performances for Swallows FC caught the eye of Amakhosi, leading to his signing in the summer of 2022. He even earned a call-up to represent South Africa in a 2022 African Nations Championship qualification match against Comoros. Despite these highlights, Matlou has struggled to secure a regular starting spot at Chiefs.
Over his two seasons with the club, Matlou has made 25 appearances and contributed one assist. Despite limited playing time, Chiefs’ decision to extend his contract shows their belief in his potential and the value he brings to the team.
Chiefs Part Ways with Four Players Ahead of New Season
As Kaizer Chiefs gear up for the 2024/25 DStv Premiership season, the club has decided to part ways with four players. This move comes as Chiefs await the arrival of their new coach, Nasreddine Nabi, who is wrapping up his duties with Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat.
Even though Nabi has not officially taken up his role at Amakhosi, the club has already started making changes. Fernando Da Cruz and Ilyes Mzoughi have joined the technical team as assistant coach and goalkeeper coach, respectively, while Majdi Safi has come on board as a strength and conditioning coach.
The players affected by these changes include notable names like Keagan Dolly, Njabulo Ngcobo, Siyethemba Sithebe, and Sifiso Hlanti. This decision aims to bring fresh talent and energy to the team, marking a new era for the club.

All four players were nearing the end of their contracts, which the club has decided not to renew. Njabulo Ngcobo has already secured his future by signing a three-year deal with Sekhukhune United.
Among the departing players, Keagan Dolly, who joined from Montpellier in the 2021/22 season, leaves as the most impactful. He made 67 appearances, scored 14 goals, and provided 11 assists during his time with Chiefs. Ngcobo, Hlanti, and Sithebe had varying levels of success at the club.
