Former Orlando Pirates Midfielder Opens Goal Account for 2023/24 French Ligue 1 Season in Stade Reims Victory Over Clermont
The accomplished Zimbabwean international Marshall Munetsi, a key player of Stade Reims for the past four years, demonstrated his flexibility by scoring his first goal of this season.
Munetsi made a calculated decision to play a more offensive role against Clermont Foot, which immediately helped his team take the lead.
Just 17 minutes into the match, the 27-year-old sportsman confidently scored from close range to firmly establish Stade Reims’ advantage. With a second goal just before the final whistle, Mohamed Daramy subsequently sealed the team’s victory and the triumphant home victory.

Overall, the former Orlando Pirates anchorman gave Stade Reims a strong performance.
After losing to Marseille 2-1 in the season opener, that was their first victory of the year.

Munetsi recently agreed to a contract extension that will keep him with the squad through the end of the 2026–2027 season.
The steady and committed midfielder was acquired in 2019 from Orlando Pirates, a time period with few successes.
In the previous season, Munetsi was the second player on the field to log the highest distance travelled, recording an astounding 13.7 kilometres in a single match.
Additionally, the French club pledged to give R 1900 to his Zimbabwean foundation. For the term of his contract, this monetary contribution will be given for each kilometre he travels.
Munetsi was also nominated for the Marc-Vivien Foé Award in 2023, a prestigious honour given to the best African player competing in French Ligue 1.
He also accepted a position on the FIFPRO Global Player Council, which gives active players a forum to voice their issues.
