According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, nothing has changed in Chelsea’s pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea will also do their hardest to sign Caicedo during the summer transfer window, regardless of what happens with the Manuel Ugarte deal.
The Blues are planning a double deal to strengthen their midfield, according to The Guardian. On that list are the names Ugarte and Caicedo.
According to the latter research, Brighton places a higher value on Caicedo. They would like to hold out for around £80 million. The Seagulls are notoriously difficult negotiators in the transfer market.
The Ecuador international, who was a target for Chelsea in the January transfer window, signed a new contract with his present club after the window closed.
The impression is that a new contract was offered with the mutual understanding that the player would stay until the end of the season before requesting a transfer.
Chelsea could do with a midfield revamp after overseeing the potential departure of Mateo Kovacic. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is also close to moving to AC Milan while Mason Mount has agreed to personal terms with Manchester United.
Caicedo could be an ideal addition to the squad because he is not only a very good and versatile midfielder, but has done well at right-back in the last few games for Brighton.
The Ecuadorian star has everything an elite central midfielder needs: he is good on the ball, can advance with it, creates chances, reads the game well to make defensive interceptions, and can run all day for the team to cover the necessary gaps. Chelsea must sign him soon before it becomes a transfer race with other clubs potentially joining the race.
