Bongani Zungu is a South African professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Mamelodi Sundowns and the South Africa national team.
Age
The South African footballer was born on the 9th of October 1992. As from July 2023, Bongani Zungu is 30 years old, however, he will be turning 31 in just few days to come.
Club career
Zungu transferred from Dynamos to the University of Pretoria at the beginning of the 2012–13 season, where he played a crucial role in helping AmaTuks achieve a top eight finish in their first season in the PSL. Following this, he moved to Mamelodi Sundowns as part of a swap deal, while Buhle Mkhwanazi and Siyabonga Ngubane went to the University of Pretoria.
Unfortunately, Zungu sustained a hairline fracture of the shin during a match against Maritzburg United, sidelining him for approximately twelve weeks. Despite this setback, he left Sundowns on a high note as the club secured the PSL title in May 2016.
Later, it was confirmed that Zungu would be joining Vitória de Guimarães in Portugal after his contract expired. After a stint in Portugal, he transferred to Amiens in France. Zungu then joined Rangers on loan from Amiens in October 2020, with the option for Rangers to sign him permanently for a transfer fee of £2.7 million.
However, in February 2021, Zungu was one of five Rangers players fined by Scottish police for violating lockdown rules amidst the COVID-19 pandemic by attending an illegal gathering.
International career
Zungu marked his first appearance for South Africa in a victorious match against Burkina Faso, securing a 2–0 win on 17 August 2013. His inaugural international goal came in a match against Swaziland on 15 November 2013, contributing to South Africa’s 3–0 triumph.
Personal life
July 2014 Zungu was a victim of a hi-jacking when a group of armed men made off with his car outside his home in Duduza.
Salary and Net Worth
The footballer from South Africa presently holds the title of the top earner at Mamelodi Sundowns, reportedly pocketing approximately R700,000 each month while playing for the Chloorkop-based team. His estimated net worth stands at approximately R20 million.
