Thembinkosi Lorch(31) has moved to Wydad AC on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, with an option for Wydad to buy him later. Wydad will pay his salary completely. Lorch joins Coach Rulani Mokwena and South African player Cassius Mailula at Wydad.
Last year, Lorch surprised many fans when he left Orlando Pirates after eight years to join their rivals, Mamelodi Sundowns. Now, football fans are again surprised that Sundowns has sent him on loan to Wydad Casablanca. Coach Rulani Mokwena seems to believe in Lorch’s skills. This move is unexpected given Lorch’s talent and experience. However, Sundowns Coach Miguel Cardoso decided to prioritize Lorch’s happiness and need for more playing time since Lorch was not happy and needed a change.
Coach Cardoso said, “Lorch was not happy here, and it’s important for players to feel happy. We cannot keep players who feel they cannot perform. Sometimes, it’s important to give them space to express themselves and get game time. Lorch needs more time on the field; he is not getting younger and has not played much in the past few years. I spoke to everyone, and they are happy with the decisions.”
Lorch’s loan to Wydad Casablanca gives him a chance to bring his career back on track with Coach Mokwena’s help. Wydad has 11 games left in the Botola Pro League and is only 10 points behind the leaders, RS Berkane. Lorch’s skills in creating plays and scoring goals could be very important for Wydad’s title hopes.
