Ten Hag, Antonio Conte and Gary O’Neil nominated for September’s Premier League Manager of the Month award

The Manchester United manager has been nominated alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s Antonio Conte and Bournemouth’s Gary O’Neil, who is currently in charge on an interim basis.

Bournemouth’s players want caretaker manager Gary O’Neil to be offered the permanent job at the Vitality Stadium after inspiring a three-game unbeaten run ahead of the international break.

O’Neil was placed in caretaker charge of the team after Scott Parker was sacked following the 9-0 drubbing by Liverpool that threatened to destroy Bournemouth’s confidence.

But Bournemouth have not lost in the three games since under O’Neil, winning once and drawing twice, and only conceding four goals – with a number of key players impressed by the job he has done.

Owner Maxim Demin has held advanced talks with American businessman Bill Foley over the sale of the club, which has cast doubt over Bournemouth’s plans to replace Parker and how long they see O’Neil being in charge for.

Bournemouth are likely to further assess their options over the international break, but O’Neil has already captured the eye of a number of Championship clubs for the job he has done, with Huddersfield Town, who have a vacancy, believed to be among those looking at his credentials.

Tottenham manager Antonio Conte is reportedly keen to return to Juventus this season, with their manager Massimiliano Allegri coming under increasing pressure. The Serie A outfit have won one of their last eight matches in all competitions.

Spurs, on the other hand, have made a terrific start to the campaign despite their new signings still not being truly settled at the club. The north London outfit are third in the Premier League and unbeaten after seven matches, with key players all beginning to find some form.

Though Italian journalist Fabiana Della Valle has told TuttoJuve Podcast that Conte would like to leave the club in favour of a return to Juventus, where he spent three years as a manager. It is thought that there will be a meeting amongst the higher powers at the club to discuss the plan of action – not solely about a change of face in the dugout – going forward in November.

Della Valle explained: “On Monday, (Andrea) Agnelli renewed his confidence in Allegri, nothing has changed to date. I think it will go on like this until November, when there will be a break for the World Cup. Then it will be possible to make an initial assessment because you will have the verdict with respect to whether or not to remain in the Champions League.

It was a successful month for the Red Devils as they continued with their winning form in the league with victories over Leicester City and Arsenal. That means they will go into October’s Manchester derby on a four-man winning streak, so things look brighter than they did in August.

Erik ten Hag will want to close the gap on Arsenal and Manchester City, but his main objective will be to get United back into the top four.

Away from the league, this month also saw the return of the Europa League. United lost their first game against Real Sociedad but turned things around to beat FC Sheriff a week later. It has been a decent start to the season but the fixtures coming up will be tough.
