A Bafana Bafana player without a contract was seen at the Kaizer Chiefs headquarters in Naturena on Friday afternoon.
Kaizer Chiefs had a tough 2023/24 DStv Premiership season, finishing 10th. They’re aiming for a comeback in the next season, with a new coach leading the team.
The team is looking to strengthen its lineup, especially in attack and left-back positions. Colombian striker Jasond Gonzalez’s contract is ending, and he’s set to leave along with Sifiso Hlanti.
The presence of the overseas-based Bafana Bafana player has sparked interest and raised questions.
It’s confirmed that Lebo Mothiba visited the headquarters earlier that Friday. The 28-year-old is currently a free agent after his contract with Ligue 1’s Racing Strasbourg ended.
Mothiba, who missed the 2023 AFCON due to injury, spent six years with the French team. There’s speculation that he might be discussing a potential move to Chiefs.
Mothiba is recovering from a knee injury that kept him out of the AFCON in January. He expects to be fully fit in “three or four weeks” and is focused on finding a new club for the upcoming season, hoping to return to international football in September.
Before his injury, Mothiba played five matches and made 10 substitute appearances, scoring three goals. In Ligue 1, he scored 26 goals and provided seven assists in 118 games. In Ligue 2, he scored 10 goals and provided two assists in 29 games, according to Transfermarkt.
