Mbappe to Real Madrid is all anyone can talk about this summer. But agent to several stars, Yvan Le Mee weighs in on how realistic it is for the Spanish giants to actually sign the French international, who was never going to come cheap.
As was the case last summer, Kylian Mbappe’s summer romance with Real Madrid is set to continue. Although the Paris Saint-Germain striker has already announced that he will not be extending his contract with his club, he will be out of contract in June 2024 and free to sign wherever he chooses.
An unthinkable situation for PSG, who have no plans to let their star leave for free, and would be prepared to lose him this summer if it means they can make back some of the €180 million they spent to sign the French international. In other words, he has never been so close to Real Madrid. However, the transfer may not take place this summer.
Indeed, Yvan Le Mee, agent to several players, including Madrid’s Ferland Mendy, does not believe that the French No.10 will move to the Spanish capital this summer. In an interview with ‘RMC’, he gave his views on the matter.
Close to the ‘Merengues’, Le Mee confirms that Real Madrid do not have the necessary liquid assets to close the deal before the end of August. While some outlets were talking about negotiations for the Bondy-born player in the region of €200 million plus €50 million in bonuses, he describes these rumours as “fantasy”.
“Nobody has made any offers as of yet,” he said. “Madrid are unable to take on his salary, which is €40 million net per year, plus the famous bonus of €30 million net per year. His total salary is between 70 and 75 million euros, whereas Karim Benzema earned €13 million. You have to realize that”.
Even more seriously, he believes that Real Madrid will not be able to sign him free in 2024. “They don’t know how to deal with the player’s salary, and they already couldn’t deal with it when he was free,” he explained. “They were offering €20 million, we were light years away from what he’s getting here.”
For his part, Kylian Mbappe has repeatedly stated in recent weeks that staying at PSG is his “only option at the moment”. It remains to be seen whether other options open up for him in the coming months, but if Yvan Le Mee’s comments are anything to go by, Real Madrid are unlikely to make a concrete offer.
