Even though Kaizer Chiefs have been doing well lately, head coach Arthur Zwane has pointed out his team’s problems. They lost to Chippa United last week because of weak strikers who couldn’t get the ball into the post.
The team from Naturena brought in at least 10 new players at the start of the season, but they might be ready to do it again in January 2023.
Amakhosi beat Stellenbosch FC 3-1 last weekend, which was their third win in a row after beating SuperSport United and Moroka Swallows both by a score of 2-1.
The black and gold team’s most recent win in Cape Town put them in fourth place after 10 games. They are five points behind league leaders and defending DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played one less game because they are in the CAF Champions League.
The most recent news is that Zwane has found two international players who could take some of the pressure off of big striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and fast winger Kgaogelo Sekgota.
Junior Mendieta, an international playmaker from Argentina who plays for Stellies in South Africa, and Amanuel Gebremichael Aregwai, an Ethiopian striker for St. George, could be the new players coming to Naturena.
Sources have also confirmed that Chiefs are willing to send midfielder Phathutshedzo Nange back to Stellies to make the deal for Mendieta, who is 29, more appealing.
The attacker from Corrientes has already helped the Western Cape team score six times this season, with three goals and three assists. He has played in 10 games so far.
Aregwai, on the other hand, is a 23-year-old young striker who is on the rise. He has played three games for St. George so far this season, but he hasn’t scored a single goal.
It remains to be seen if Zwane can convince the Chiefs board to write a big check, especially for Mendieta, who is likely to cost a lot. Do you think the Kaizer Chiefs are ready to spend to improve their team or will they wait for free transfers? Tell is what you think.
