Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be hard at work trying to secure their transfer targets ahead of next season, with a striker thought to be one of them.

Chiefs have already confirmed the signing of SuperSport United centre back Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, while also being thought to have signed Mduduzi Mdantsane and Given Msimango.

At the end of the previous season, Chiefs made a massive clear out, getting rid of some experienced players, some of which had not been able to lead Amakhosi to any silverware during their lengthy stays at the club. It is expected that they will also undergo a similar exodus that could see several players forced through the exit door.

After that, Chiefs invested in players who were either younger or in their prime years, like Ashley du Preez, Zitha Kwinika, George Matlou, Dillon Solomons and Yusuf Maart to name but a few. With acquisition of Ditlhokwe, 24, Msimango, 26 and Mdantsane, approach has since proven to be a consistent one from Arthur Zwane and his coaching staff.

It now seems as if Chiefs tried to get yet another hot younger prospect in the league in the shape of Khanyisa Mayo from Cape Town City. The winger is the son of Patrick Mayo who played for Amakhosi back in the day. His former teammate Kaizer Motaung Jr, who is the current sports director at the club confirms talks with Cape Town City owner John Comitis.

Although in those talks Comitis confirmed he did not want to sell Mayo, Chiefs seem to have not heard that message fully. Earlier this week, this publication reported that Amakhosi have a secret weapon in the player’s dad who wants to see the player follow in his footsteps. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, the Glamour Boys are set to push ahead with a bid.

CHIEFS TO BID FOR MAYO

“The Siya crew has been led to believe that the name of Khanyisa Mayo has been discussed at the offices at Naturena, as Kaizer Chiefs look to bolster their striking department, which has raised some concerns at the club. Amakhosi had previously tried to bring the player to the club, but Cape Town City were not interested in letting the player go.

It appears the Soweto giants could dig deep into their pockets to secure the services of the former Richards Bay FC striker, in an effort to find a marksman who will be a bit more consistent than the ones that they already have.” Wrote the publication.

It now remains to be seen if Chiefs can convince Cape Town City to part with Mayo, and then the player himself to join the club.
