Kaizer Chiefs have already signed a foreign midfielder and are believed to have come back in for yet another one, but face a serious issue.

Last week Chiefs agreed personal terms with Venezuelan international midfielder Edson Castillo, who is set to join them next month.

On the same day the Castillo rumours broke, it was also reported that Chiefs had come back in for Fabrice Ngoma, a midfielder they tried to sign both in the winter and summer transfer windows of the previous season. That then had Amakhosi supporters excited at the prospect of a double boost for a midfield that is in desperate need for a resurgence.

Ngoma was an obvious link for Chiefs, having previously been of interest to the club. The events of him terminating his deal at Sudanese giants Al Hilal, straight after links of a move to Amakhosi resurfaced, made things more suspicious. Now while an approach was thought to be unlikely to be made for the player, since rumours quickly claimed that he was in fact, close to joining Yanga SC, it seems the Glamour Boys had not given up on the race, nor did they shut shop on the idea of the deal happening.

Now, even though Chiefs are still thought to be interested in signing Ngoma but according to Soccer-Laduma, they have encountered a stumbling block.

SALARY HOLDING CHIEFS BACK FROM NGOMA MOVE?

“As we speak, Chiefs still want Ngoma, and the player also wants to come to South Africa. However the money that the player and his representatives are looking at could be the one scaring Chiefs off at the moment, you know Al Hilal pay huge salaries. He is currently getting between $18,000 (R327,420) to $20,000 (R360,000) a month. And that is without bonuses and other things. At the moment, Chiefs would offer up to R300,000 as their highest for Ngoma. Now, that’s salary only. What about signing on fee? You see, it’s a lot for Chiefs, hence it’s taking time to Gnalise the deal. But in essence, they really want him. Now, it will all depend on the talks between all the involved parties,” said a source to the same publication.

While Chiefs have had a reputation for not spending on transfer fees, they have always been competitive when it comes to salaries for high profile free agents. Surely if Chiefs really want Ngoma and want to be competitive next season, they will pay what they have to for the DR Congo International.
