45min Football can confirm Kaizer Chiefs have secured the signature of highly-rated young South African defender Rushwin Dortley, outpacing Stellenbosch FC and SuperSport United in the race for his services.
The 22-year-old left-footed center-back, renowned for his ball-playing abilities and versatility, is seen as a perfect fit for newly appointed Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi’s tactical vision. Rushwin Dortley captained the South African national team at the recent COSAFA Cup, where he was named Man of the Match, highlighting his potential as one of the country’s most promising defensive talents.

Despite Cape Town Spurs’ relegation, Dortley’s impressive performances during the 2023/24 PSL season drew the attention of several top-flight clubs. Nabi, who prefers a smaller squad with versatile players, views Dortley as a valuable addition capable of playing both left-back and left-centre-back.
This transfer is a significant boost for the Glamour Boys, especially with Edmilson Dove and Bongani Sam sidelined by injuries, leaving gaps in the defensive line.
The Soweto giants have also released veteran fullback Sifiso Hlanti and central defender Njabulo Ngcobo following the expiration of their contracts, while left-centre-back Luke Fleurs tragically passed away in April. Dortley’s height, physical strength, and ball-playing skills make him an ideal candidate for Nabi’s possession-based style, enhancing the team’s adaptability in various game situations.
Dortley will face competition from Botswana international Thatayaone Ditlhokwe for a starting spot, but his youth and potential for growth make him a valuable long-term investment for the club. His leadership qualities and experience with all youth national teams further enhance his value, promising to instill confidence in Chiefs’ future.
For Dortley, joining Chiefs not only fulfills his ambition to play for a top PSL club but also keeps his European aspirations alive. Having previously undergone a training assessment with FC Nordsjælland, he will aim to leverage this platform to showcase his talent on a bigger stage.
Dortley’s arrival significantly bolsters Chiefs’ defensive capabilities ahead of the new season. With his talent, versatility, and leadership, he is poised to make a substantial impact at Naturena and become a pivotal figure in the club’s future successes.
