Chiefs’ Recent Struggles and Hopes for Player Recovery During the International Break
The Chiefs recently faced a setback in their 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign, suffering a 1-0 defeat to the Citizens in their final home game before the international break.
This loss marked their fourth defeat in nine league games this season. The team is eager to regroup and improve their performance moving forward.
Chiefs’ Ntseki Eager to Face AmaZulu’s Enhanced Squad in the Upcoming Cup Clash
One key factor affecting the Chiefs’ recent results has been the absence of certain players. Petersen, the goalkeeper, missed two of the last three league games, and the club experienced defeats in both matches with Itumeleng Khune taking his place in goal.
Meanwhile, Matlou returned to the Chiefs’ starting lineup during a goalless draw with Royal AM, displaying promising performances before succumbing to an injury against City.
Despite these challenges, the Chiefs’ head coach, Ntseki, remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. He believes that the upcoming international break presents an opportunity for injured players to recover in time for the Chiefs’ next match, which will be a home clash with AmaZulu in the Carling Knockout Cup.
“We lost George and Petersen when we were doing our captain’s run,” he said during the launch of the tournament.
“we all know how George has been doing in the last few games, Petersen came back to take the number one spot as a goalkeeper.
“it was a big loss for the club, for all of us when the two players got injured a day before the game.
“But I think the recovery period is good enough for us to have them maybe available for selection because I think the medical team is working around the clock, especially for players that are going through back-to-play or back-to-training protocols.
“But as of now, hopefully by the time we go into the next game all players will be available for selection.”
