Kaizer Chiefs Offer TURNED down AGAIN

Fleurs, 22, who has made a meager 60 Premiership games, has acknowledged that it is time for him to step up as a senior, despite how difficult it may be, as Matsatsantsa continues to sign up new talent while offloading high-profile players.

"At my age, it's difficult to step up and mentor younger players because I'm still getting my bearings, but the coach's [Gavin Hunt] confidence in me has helped me realize that the time has come for me to act as a senior member of the squad. However, I must say that it's difficult to suddenly become a senior after only being a young person just starting out a few months before, Fleurs told 45min.

Luke Fleurs, a defender with SuperSport United, has been linked to Chiefs for a while as a potential addition to the team next season.

Given that Fleurs is nearing the end of his initial contract with SuperSport, there have even been recent rumors suggesting a good chance the two teams would come to an agreement soon.

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews instead announced that the club has retained the services of the young star in an exclusive interview with SABC Sport.

Fleurs' agent Glyn Binkin has now provided an explanation for the defender's decision to accept a new contract with SuperSport while simultaneously effectively rejecting Chiefs.

Binkin told Soccer Laduma, "Chiefs told me at the time they were not interested and the player needed to ensure his future, which he has since done.

“I can confirm that it is true (that he’s re-signed with SuperSport) and, as mentioned by the CEO of SuperSport, there is both a local and International buyout clause if such opportunities arise. But for now, he is focused on SuperSport United.”

On that note, Matthew explained the clauses enforced in the new long-term contract.

“I can tell you that Luke has recommitted his future to SuperSport by agreeing to a three-and-a-half-year deal. It’s good news, and we have told the player we will not stand in his way if a good opportunity comes along,” Matthews explained.

“The club has inserted a local and international buy-out clause should there be an offer we believe makes sense for the club and for Luke.”
