Noko Matlou to Retire from Banyana Banyana
After 19 years of playing for the South African Women’s National team, Banyana Banyana, Noko Matlou is set to retire. The 39-year-old player from Limpopo will play her last game for the team on Saturday against Malawi in an international friendly match.

Noko Matlou has had an incredible career. She was the first South African woman to win the CAF Player of the Year award in 2008. She also won the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and played in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Matlou will earn her 176th senior international cap against Malawi, making her the second-most capped national team player. She has scored 66 goals for Banyana Banyana since her debut in 2007.

Matlou said, “I’m officially retiring from international football, the game against Malawi will be my last game for Banyana Banyana.” She is proud of her achievements and feels that she is leaving the team in a good place.

Noko Matlou has been committed to representing her country for over 15 years. She currently plays for Spanish club CP Cacereño. Her legacy in South African football will be remembered for years to come.
