The Kaizer Chiefs are in the midst of an intense competition to secure their next head coach following the departure of Molefi Ntseki. With several potential candidates already emerging, the race for the coveted position is gaining momentum.
Currently, Cavin Johnson has been appointed as the interim coach, but there is speculation about whether he will be chosen as the permanent head coach. However, it appears that the Amakhosi would prefer him to return to the Head of Youth role he initially assumed earlier this season.
Almost immediately after Ntseki's exit, the media went into overdrive, speculating about his successor. Agents from around the world are said to have offered their coaching services to the club.
One of the prominent names in the running is Spanish coach Raul Caneda, as reported in the latest edition (128) of 45min football. Caneda, who boasts an impressive coaching record with stints in the Gulf, is believed to have been presented as an option to Amakhosi.
Other strong contenders for the role include Pitso Mosimane, former Kaizer Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral, and Nasreddine Nabi. Mosimane, currently with Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates, is reportedly a highly sought-after candidate, but his salary demands may pose a hurdle.
Ertugral, who has coached the Chiefs on two previous occasions, has strong ties to the club and a good relationship with key figures like Bobby and Kaizer Motaung Sr. He is presently available, having last worked as a Technical Advisor with the Turkish national team.
Nabi, who was previously in talks with Chiefs before Ntseki's appointment, has since joined FAR Rabat in Morocco. Despite an exit from the CAF Champions League, he has been doing a commendable job. Whether Nabi has a buy-out clause in his contract with the Moroccan club remains uncertain.
As the hunt for the new head coach continues, it is anticipated that more names will be linked to the role. However, it's crucial to note that being offered to the club and the club's genuine interest in a coach are distinct factors. The Kaizer Chiefs are set to make a final decision in the coming weeks.
