Kaizer Jr Addresses Mayo & Mendieta Transfer Rumors

Kaizer Chiefs are amid a period of transition and are anticipating another active transfer window prior to the 2023/24 season. Their activity in the market could be influenced by the remaining five matches of the 2022/23 campaign and whether they are able to secure a spot in the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederations Cup.

As the next transfer window approaches, speculation regarding potential recruits is gaining momentum, and Kaizer Jr. was recently questioned about Khanyisa Mayo and Junior Mendieta. He acknowledged that discussions with John Comitis had taken place, but Comitis was not open to selling at that time.

“No [they] definitely [do fit] the profile,” he told Thabiso Mosia on Radio2000.

“Quality players and again now I’m talking about players who are contracted to other teams. So I don’t wanted overstep the respect for the leadership I have for both of those teams.

“But when it comes to someone like Mayo, great talent. But of course ‘willing buyer, willing seller’. During the last conversation that was had Mr. Comitis said outright he’s not willing to sell Mayo right now.”

Motaung Jr. was reluctant to discuss Mendieta, whom he described as a "top talent," and stated that the player's future would be determined by Stellenbosch's intentions for him.

“And of course Mendieta is down to what are Stellenbosch’s strategic outlook for him,” he added.

“We know he’s contracted, and I think as time goes on, we’ll see where we are, but he’s a top talent.”

Motaung Jr. was asked if Mayo and Mendieta would be suitable targets for Chiefs, and if they fit the club's profile. He responded by saying that it is up to Arthur Zwane and the technical team to determine which players they want and require.

“Would like to have him [Mendieta], would like to have Mayo. All these are great players and our supporters are mentioning those names, they understand the game,” he continued.

“But the coach and the technical staff will give us indication of their requirements we don’t just sign the players and just show the coach. The coach will have be an integral part, so they will guide us on this one.”
