Morgan Mammila, coach of Chippa United, has stated why the team neglected the'scouting system' in its search for a left-back ahead of the 2023/24 PSL season.
The Chilli Boys stunned many last week when they advertised a position for "an exceptional left-back" on social media.
The Eastern Cape club's advertisement drew severe criticism from the football community. It was the very first of its kind.

According to the 50-year-old, they chose to tweet in order to reach a broad audience and recruit a diverse range of candidates.
Mammila also announced that the club had discovered their ideal left-back.
“I was only looking at one position, which is the left-back that we even advertised that we looking for a left-back. The response was something out of this world; we managed to get a quality left-back,” said Mammila.
“Let’s be honest, a scout can’t be all over Africa, can’t be all over the world, but one tweet can be all over Africa.
“That one tweet helped us to attract over 500 quality left-backs, unlike if it was a scout. He [the scout] can only be able to go Tanzania, Zambia and others.”
Chippa United has been highly active in the transfer market since the opening of the window on 1st July, diligently strengthening their squad for the upcoming 2023/24 season.
Their primary objective is to bounce back from last season's disappointing performance, having finished 14th on the log table with 30 points, narrowly escaping relegation with just a point above the relegated side Marumo Gallants.
So far, the club has successfully completed five signings to bolster their ranks. Notable acquisitions include Luvuyo Memela from Richards Bay FC, Menzi Ndwandwe from the now-defunct NFD side All Stars FC, as well as the experienced Augustine Mulenga, who joined as a free agent.
Additionally, they secured Craig Martin from Orlando Pirates, further adding to their attacking prowess.
Moreover, Pirates announced the loan agreement of midfielder Goodman Mosele to Chippa United for the entire 2023/24 season, showcasing the club's determination to strengthen their midfield options and improve their overall performance in the coming campaign.
