Kaizer Chiefs is a South African football club that has large following and passionate supporters. However, this passion can sometimes turn into hostility towards players who fail to meet their expectations. The latest player to face jeers from the club's supporters is Burundian striker, Bimenyimana.
Former striker, David Radebe, has advised Bimenyimana to continue doing his job and try to minimize his mistakes. Radebe also noted that Bimenyimana will need the support of his teammates, as the supporters will only support him if he does the right thing.
Radebe, who himself faced jeers from the supporters during his time at Kaizer Chiefs, said that he got used to the booing because they only did it when he missed chances. However, he also acknowledged that in Bimenyimana's case, it's going to be difficult because he is not from South Africa.
Radebe emphasized that as a foreigner, Bimenyimana needs to be better than the local strikers. He also commented on his own experience, stating that the supporters loved the way he used to outpace defenders, but his problem was missing chances.
Radebe further stated that Bimenyimana's touches leave a lot to be desired, and he is not the type of target man that Christian Saile needs as a strike partner. Radebe expressed his disappointment in the club's decision to import semi-skilled labour when there are plenty of local strikers with similar skills in the ABC Motsepe League.
The supporters' passion for the club is admirable, it is important to remember that players are human and mistakes are a part of the game. Instead of jeering and hostility, fans should try to support their team and its players, especially when they are going through a rough patch.
