Kaizer Chiefs’ Edmilson Dove asserts that sentiment won’t sway him as he gears up to confront his former team, Cape Town City. Having spent five years with City, Dove maintains amicable ties but emphasizes his sole focus on delivering for Chiefs.
“I spent five years there and I still have a lot of friends in Cape Town,” Edmilson shared with www.kaizerchiefs.com. “I didn’t leave the club with any grudges and I still have good memories of my time there, but now it is a matter of professional business.”
He continued, “I am going there with only one thing in mind, to get a positive result for Kaizer Chiefs. Yes, I once played for them in the past but it is all about honoring the jersey I am wearing now.”
Dove stressed Kaizer Chiefs’ adherence to a one-game-at-a-time approach, with Cape Town City being their immediate focus. Cape Town City, presently fifth with 31 points, pose a significant challenge for Chiefs, who are striving for a favorable outcome.
“We prepare for one game at a time,” Dove reiterated. “One can’t look ahead to a future game when there is one to play before that. We are only focused on Cape Town City now and when that is done, we’ll look at what’s next.”
The clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City is set to kick off at 15:30 at Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, 30 March.
Meanwhile, Cape Town City harbors aspirations of clinching CAF spots by season-end but must be cautious against dropping points to Kaizer Chiefs.
“We set ourselves targets and goals and we have not achieved that, so that is a disappointment for me,” Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler expressed to SuperSport. “But the fact that we are still in it means we are fortunate. We have to take advantage of that good fortune. We have to keep pushing, go game-by-game, collect three points and top that 40-point mark as soon as we can. That has to be the target. We see ourselves as a top eight or top six team, so we have to try and reach those targets and objectives, the sooner we can do it the better.”
