Kaizer Chiefs have released their ninth player of this transfer window as they continue a major overhaul of their squad.
Chiefs parted ways with Phathutshedzo Nange, Thabani Dube, Erick Mathoho, Siyabonga Ngezana, Khama Billiat, Kgaogelo Sekgota, Cole Alexander and Caleb Bimenyimana.
They brought in Edson Castillo, Given Msimango, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Pule Mmodi, Tebogo Potsane, Jasond González, Mduduzi Mdantsane and Ranga Chivaviro.
The DStv Premiership giants have mutually agreed to part ways with talented midfielder Kamohelo Mahlatsi. He becomes the ninth player to leave the club this transfer window.
The 25-year-old midfielder joined Chiefs from Swallows FC at the start of the 2022/23 season on a three-year deal. He arrived alongside Dillan Solomons and George Matlou shortly after Arthur Zwane was appointed head coach.
WHY KAIZER CHIEFS DECIDED TO RELEASE MAHLATSI
However, Mahlatsi was limited to just seven appearances for Chiefs last season. He struggled to knuckle down a regular place in the team due to several factors, including injuries.
He has yet to feature for the club this season under newly appointed coach Molefi Ntseki. Chiefs and Mahlatsi have been in talks to mutually end their relationship.
It appears they have agreed to cut ties with the transfer window still open. The South African transfer window closes on 22 September, 2023.
Mahlatsi, who has turned out for SuperSport United, Swallows and AmaTuks, will look to find another club in the next few days.
The former South African youth international will likely have a couple of suitors as he is a talented and versatile player.
The man from Sebokeng can play on either wing and in central midfield. His best stint so far was with The Birds, where he established himself as a vital cog.
In the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, he only missed nine league games, attracting the interest of Amakhosi.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Donay Jansen looks like a perfect replacement for Mahlatsi. Amakhosi are known for giving opportunities to youngsters that come through their academy.
Jansen has been knocking on the first-team door with stellar performances in the DStv Diski Challenge. On Thursday, he was part of the team preparing to take on Royal AM over the weekend.
The youngster scored 12 goals in the DDC last season and opened his account for the current season with a goal in the 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates on Sunday.
