News reaching The KosiBay News is that Kaizer Chiefs could become the latest club in the race for Stellenbosch Midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa signature.
Sibongiseni Mthethwa has emerged as one of the top performers in the early stages of the 2022/2023 season and the player’s high work-rate and progress under coach Steve Barker has also earned him recognition of coach Hugo Broos after he was selected for the friendly match against Sierra Leone and Botswana during the recent Fifa International break.
So far this season Sibongiseni Mthethwa has started in all 11 matches for his side Stellenbosch FC in the league and cup respectively, amassing over 1,010 minutes of football action.
As reported by this publication, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Royal AM and SuperSport United are some of the clubs that have been keeping an eye on the in-form central midfielder although indications are that Kaizer Chiefs have joined in monitoring the 28-year-old.
Following the good relationship between the two clubs, which has seen the likes of Phathutshedzo Nange, Ashley Du Preez, Zitha Kwinika move from Stellenbosch to Kaizer Chiefs in the last seasons, the two clubs could set for negotiations for OX, as Mthethwa is known in football circles, according to sources.
Indications are that the Glamour Boys could look to do a swap deal for Phathutshedzo Nange to potentially go back to Stellenbosch and Sibongiseni Mthethwa move to Naturena according the source.
Phathu has struggled for game time so far this season under coach Arthur Zwane, having made only two appearances and is down in the pecking order going into the halfway mark of the campaign. In last Sunday’s game between Stellenbosch and Kaizer Chiefs, he was not part of the team, while Ox featured for 81 minutes for Steve Barker’s changes.
Kaizer Chiefs cannot be ruled out in the race for Mthethwa and a move there is one of the options for the player. His name has been mentioned in the talk of possible swap deal with Nange.
